EFT: Tapping For When You Are Struggling to Be Present
Do you struggle with being in the present moment? Do feelings about things that happened in the past overwhelm you? Or maybe it's fear or concerns about what the future holds that sweep you away to another place?
The present is a gift. It's a moment in time we won't ever get back. I know you don't want to spend it in overwhelm or fear fretting about the past or future. None of us want that. So what do we do?
We have what we are having. We feel the feelings. We acknowledge the emotion, sit with it, surrender and come back home to ourselves.
Tapping is just one of many modalities that can help us be present. This 5-4-3-2-1 practice can be particular helpful especially if you are feeling anxious.
5: Acknowledge FIVE things you see around you. It could be a lamp, a spot on the ceiling, anything in your surroundings.
4: Acknowledge FOUR things you can touch around you. It could be your keyboard, a pillow, or the ground under your feet.
3: Acknowledge THREE things you hear. This could be any external sound - cars driving by, birds chirping Focus on things you can hear outside of your body.
2: Acknowledge TWO things you can smell. Maybe it's your shampoo or perfume
1: Acknowledge ONE thing you can taste. What does the inside of your mouth taste like—gum, coffee, or the sandwich from lunch?
