Breathing Techniques for Anxiety

Being mindful of the breath is an important part of any EFT/Tapping practice. Tracing the breath as it moves up through the nose, into the throat, filling the lungs and belly, and then back out again is calming for both the body and the mind.

When working with my clients, we often do several different types of breathing exercises throughout a session. Today I thought I'd share a few of these practices with you. They can be used at any time, and have been shown to help with:

  • Reducing anxiety and stress

  • Calming restlessness

  • Reducing fear

  • Improving relaxation response

  • Lowering heart rate and blood pressure

In this video I walk you through the following types of breathing techniques:

  • Square breathing

  • Circle breathing

  • Nostril breathing

  • 4,7,8 breathing

Find what works best for you, and implement it into your daily routine. You can choose to start your day with a few minutes of morning breathing, renew your energy with one of these exercises midday, and wind down with a practice at the end of the day. Incorporating these breathing techniques for just a few minutes throughout the day will help you regulate stress and increase the amount of oxygen going to your heart and brain! For an added bonus, combine this with some tapping!
